can you please advise what is the shank diameter of the forstner bit
The shank of the Forstner bit is slightly less than 12mm, you cannot insert a classic Forstner bit, but it needs its own. A replacement bit costs about 6 euros.
what is the black vertical piece with a hole for?
It is designed to attach a vacuum hose in order to reduce the amount of dust created during drilling.

truly an excellent product, very well made and easy to use. only downside: there are no instructions, and if you forget how to use it, you have to go to the site every time.

Awesome product with anodise aluminium. Etched markings for high contrast is a great implementation. Some rough areas but good build with no clamp required. Four screw hole options is a nice touch. Will hopefully do what it is suppose do once I put it into use soon.
