What is the third pole on the female contact?
The innermost negative terminal on the socket is connected to the negative pole of your equipment's internal power source (usually batteries), and the outermost ("third") negative terminal completes the negative line to your equipment. When a plug from an outside power source is inserted into the plug, it disconnects the batteries, and supplies its own power to your equipment. (Of course the plug's positive terminal (the centre one) must be connected to the your equipment's positive line.)

As a very commonly used power connector, it's good to have some spares for your projects and being able to use many power chargers/supplies caming with this connector. Also for replacements in damaged cords.

Set of 5 Male and Female plastic 5.5 x 2.1mm plugs and sockets. Adequate for what I need them for, but not the best quality. Quite sturdy when it comes to plugging them in as takes some force to unplug them - possibly great for any location that has possible vibration as it's unlikely these will come apart. As for the cost, I can't complain as they do work as intended.
